May 1 Small update today: I added the section of PHP code for 5MST to account for fivers that were part of events like Time Travel Week or Mudd Day. |

May 2 Here's that Sci-Fiver I promised way back on March 30, before everything was delayed by the Cheese event and the server move. Scooter brings us his second and not last Doctor Who fiver: "Earthshock." [Comments] |

May 3 And here's the other one I promised on March 30 -- the one for a series we've never covered before. (That's not strictly true now, but I checked with Nic and he didn't mind.) Behold 5MV's first real Smallville fiver: "Crush," by Nic Corelli. [Comments] |

May 5 Sorry, no Net access yesterday. Today's a link day, and the link is one I've been forgetting to give you for some time now: evay's done another Enterprise DVD commentary, this time for "Singularity." |

May 6 Thought of this in a chat with Sa'ar today. Behold the masterpiece that is Voice of Fiver! |

May 7 I think there are about 150 people waiting to hear from me right now. I'm sorry about that -- this week turned out to be a lot busier than I expected. I'm free tomorrow, so I'll do as much catching up as I can. By the way, if you didn't get "Voice of Fiver," the story is here. |

May 8 Link today. You know Nickelback? Whether you like them or not, this is hilarious. |

May 9 It's Mother's Day -- and Derek Dean's birthday! To celebrate both, here's The Top 10 Mother's Day Plans of DS9 Characters. [Comments] |

May 10 There'll be an update later today if I can pull it off, but in case I can't, here's a link. T Campbell is the author of Fans!, a brilliant webcomic I'm sure I've recommended in this space before; he also has a blog where he comments on diverse subjects, including science fiction. In his latest entry, he explains what he considers the biggest problem with Enterprise -- big enough, in fact, that he's given up watching the show. I disagree with him on this, but his post is thought-provoking. Read it at Fans! (the blog is below the comic). |

May 11 It's long past time I gave prominent links to The Enterprise Project and SaveEnterprise.com. I've been planning for some time to make a big post about the peril Enterprise is in, but I can't afford to delay any longer posting the links -- UPN announces its fall schedule on May 20. I urge all 5MV readers to support the campaign to save the show; to find out how you can do that, visit one of the sites above. At this point the most effective thing you can do is probably to phone or email Paramount (the sites have contact information; there's even a form you can fill out to send a fax online). And if you have a Neilsen box, for the love of God, watch the show! |

May 12 New Enterprise fiver! Here's Five-Minute "E²." It's part of something bigger, but I don't have time to explain now -- come back tomorrow for the story. [Comments] |

May 13 Urggh... make that tomorrow. Sorry. |
5ME |
May 14 Okay, here's that explanation I said was coming. There's only a few days left before we find out whether Enterprise is renewed or not, so I've decided to do an Enterprise Week -- kill as much of my backlog as possible and use the event to promote the Save Enterprise campaign. My original plan was to start on Wednesday, and here, I did. Unfortunately, I then discovered that my Trek Nation fiver-posting system is down, and while I've talked to Christian about the problem, he hasn't been able to fix it yet. So the start of Enterprise Week has been delayed; with any luck, the system will be working again tomorrow so I can post "E²" at TT, and then the next new fiver will be Sunday. However, to tide you guys over, tomorrow's update will be awesome. Tommy Kvarsvik has made us another comic book fiver! If you missed the first one (for Five-Minute Star Trek: The Motion Picture) it's here until I change it over to PHP. And hey, I haven't actually linked to it anywhere in 5MST, have I? That seems a pretty big omission... but I digress. Come back tomorrow for a comic book version of another of my fivers -- and just for fun, first person to guess which one it is gets a cookie. As for today, here's a link: 1UP.com is the sister site of several gaming magazines, including the well-known OPM (Official PlayStation Magazine) and the excellent one I got a free subscription to, GMR. I link to them today because they've got detailed coverage of the coolest thing that's been going on this week: E3, the massive annual videogame-industry trade show where all the big gaming companies show off the new games and products they're working on. This year, visitors got to see the new Nintendo handheld system, the DS; Sony's handheld PlayStation product, the PSP; and countless games, including the awesome-looking Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, a new Zelda game that has IJD jumping up and down, and several Mega Man games that have me doing the same. Go to 1UP for first-hand reports on all the cool games we can expect this coming year. [Comments] |

May 15 Ha. Nobody got it, so I don't have to give out any cookies. It's "Encounter at Farpoint." Enjoy! [Comments] |

May 16 Grrrr. My TrekToday account was supposed to be working again today. Since it's not, I'll just catch up on some minor stuff.
Oh, here's a preview from the next ENT fiver. D'Jamat: So for years we've been on a pilgrimage through the Chosen Realm. [Comments] |

May 17 It's another list update!

May 18 and 19 Listing, listing, la la la la la....
To get back onto a next-day updating schedule, this update will cover two days: the 18th (the T10 lists) and the 19th (the ENT fiver). This means that the May 20 update will actually be seen on May 20. Shocking, no? [Comments] |

May 20 It's now all but guaranteed that Enterprise is back. I'm not going to let out the breath I've been holding till the official announcement today, but the news is definitely a relief. Tomorrow, I celebrate. Today, however, I mourn. I mourn for a show that went before its time: Angel, whose finale aired last night. It was one of the best-written, best-acted, and most original shows on TV, and it deserved to run as long as the creators were willing to keep at it. But that's not how it works in the television world anymore. Reality TV has taken over; sci-fi is shattered in its wake, and the other genres are beginning to fall too. You get the idea. I'm pissed. But the news about Enterprise is great, and we'll be celebrating it here with the continuation of Enterprise Week tomorrow -- or maybe later today. |
5ME |
May 21 Arrrrrrrgh. I really wanted to get another ENT fiver out today, considering the renewal announcement, but things just kept coming up. (It didn't help that the Angel finale got me so mad I've been in completely the wrong mood for fiving today.) It'll just have to wait till tomorrow. But fiver or not, PARRRRR-TAY! Enterprise is officially renewed! Pecan martinis all round! The fight's not over yet -- the show's in a stupid timeslot now, so its ratings may well suffer, and there are rumours that UPN has told Rick Berman to wrap it up at four seasons. But there's plenty of time to try and change that now that we've definitely got a Season 4. So for now, let's celebrate! Come to the party thread to raise a glass with other 5MV fans! (I'll be dropping by with a bonus or two....) |

May 23 Sorry to disappear -- couldn't get online yesterday. Here at last is the next fiver of Enterprise Week: Five-Minute "The Council." By the way, our announcement has finally been posted at TrekToday. If you just came here from there, welcome to Five-Minute Voyager! This site has a lot of sections and content -- a good place to start is the About section, which explains what we're about and how the site works. [Comments] |

May 24 Enterprise Week lives! Here's Five-Minute "Proving Ground," in which my Season 1 habit of introducing my own subplots really starts to reassert itself.... [Comments] |

May 25 I'm well into the "Countdown" fiver, but I'm way too exhausted to finish it tonight. So, as an intermission, here are not one but two "fivers" of Troy which have appeared on LiveJournal: cleolinda's version and mistful's version. |
5ME |
May 26 The countdown is over: here's Five-Minute "Countdown." There are almost certainly errors in the fiver, because I'm in a huge rush right now. Why? Because I haven't seen the finale yet and it's on tape and it's past midnight and my brother's home now and time is running out and I GOTTA WATCH IT, DAMN YOU! Yeah, enjoy the fiver. [Comments] |

May 27 Not only did the Enterprise finale kick butt, it had the most insane cliffhanger ending I've ever seen. B&B may be nuts, but they sure came up with an ending that nobody could see coming. You can share your reactions in the "Zero Hour" thread. I have some RL to sort out, so Enterprise Week will continue tomorrow. Meanwhile... as some of you will have heard by now, Richard Biggs, who played Dr. Stephen Franklin for five seasons on Babylon 5, has died. His death came without warning at the tragically young age of 44. As our tribute to him, Sa'ar Chasm has written a fiver of the Franklin-heavy episode "Believers." [Comments] |

May 28 "Strategem" is about 90% done. I'll post it tomorrow morning, possibly from the LAN party I'm going to (whose guests include a few 5MV fans, coolly enough). Meanwhile, a link: if you have any interest whatsoever in classic videogames... if you've ever even played one... you must check out Kid Radd. It's a sprite comic, but not based on a real game -- the sprites and characters are all completely original. The way the strip presents itself is unique too; you read the panels one at a time, but almost every panel has some kind of animation going on, from simple to very elaborate. You won't believe what this comic does with pixel art. On top of all that, it's brilliantly written, with a fascinating premise and an unpredictable storyline that's serious when it wants to be and hilarious the rest of the time. I'm not kidding: you must check this one out. (Note: View in IE if you can. The animation is a little buggy in Opera.) |

May 30 Today we've got a new Original Series fiver: Five-Minute "The Cloud Minders" by IJD GAF. Thought for the day: PHP subsites are indeed easier to update. By the way, on Wednesday and Thursday last week we hit a new daily hitcount record, breaking 1000 for the first time. (The new record is about 1110.) This is largely due to being linked from a porn site.... (That link is actually work-safe. Apparently there's a filtered version of the site.) [Comments] |

May 31 My schedule was just too packed today to get "Harbinger" done, so I've pulled out another of the many guest fivers in the backlog. Here's TNG's "Liaisons," by a long-time-forumgoer-first-time-fivist, Wade the Sane Commodore. By the way, this fiver would bring 5MNG up to the 100-hour mark -- were it not for the fact that I forgot to count "Night Terrors" at the time. So happy 101, Marc! As a bonus link because this update was late, here's a hilarious thread at the Trek BBS: Chris Howell's Xindi Arc FAQ. (That link may not work if you're not signed in to the BBS, I'm not sure.)
