January 7 I know I said there would be more updates on the 4th. I think I may have to stop predicting when I'll have new content, and just stick to "it's coming." Anyway, 5MVG has been updated as promised with Mega Man 5 and Mega Man 6. I should have a little more later today, but no guarantees. I know I'm way behind on pretty much everything. There have been e-mails gathering dust in my inbox for months now -- it's disgraceful. I have all kinds of guest fivers to process, but I keep putting them off. I'm sorry, people. I'm not doing a great job of running this site, and I have nobody else to blame. I hope I can get my act together. |

January 9 Today's big news is the News section itself. As you may have noticed, I've removed the "this is a temporary layout" box; it took a while, but I've finally remodeled this section and put all the material back online. You might find it interesting to poke around the archives a bit, now that the entries are reorganized, colour-coded, and such. While I'm talking about the News section, I have a small announcement about my future use of it. I've decided to update this page on a daily basis, or as close as possible to same. That's not to say I'll always have new content -- I definitely can't promise to produce that often with university back on -- but I'll at least let you know what I'm up to, and what you can expect to see on the site before long. This should help prevent my notorious "silent periods," where I've left you guys in the dark for a month or more because I was waiting to accomplish everything in one update. (Actually, that's why the latest redesign took so long. I wanted to include every little improvement I'd thought of, and weeks led to months....) There is new content today, though. The latest VVS8 episode, Janeway602's excellent "Secrets and Lies," is now fived. Believe it or not, that leaves just one VVS8 episode left. What a long, strange trip it's been, eh? Look for "48 Hours" next week (which happens to include two scenes by yours truly). The update list now has eight subscribers, by the way. I'll be starting to mail the updates later this week. |

January 10 I published the new News section yesterday, but in fact there were a few more pages to remodel: the articles I write to explain big site changes, which are archived in News. I've finished their reformatting now, and you'll find them listed at the bottom of this page. Since I couldn't use a fine-toothed comb on this much material and still be done in good time, quite a few links on the archived update pages are broken. If you come across any such links, please let me know so I can correct them. In fact, if you do find one, I'll thank you here on the News page. Not much incentive, but it's the best I can do.... |

January 11 This being a humour site, I rarely use it to comment on serious material, but I'm making an exception today. If you enjoyed Deep Space Nine and haven't read the three-novel series Millennium by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, go read it. NOW. Buy, borrow, or steal a copy and read through it. Make it your highest priority. You will not regret it. No site news today except that 5MNG head Marc Richard spotted a broken link on the March 2001 page. As promised, I'm crediting him on this page, but that's unlikely to be a huge novelty to him -- he has the authority to post his own articles here, after all. |

January 13 Sorry about the disappearing act. Owen took the server down yesterday for bandwidth analysis, and he wasn't finished till this afternoon. Today we've got a brand new video game parody from SimonBob: Five-Minute Final Fantasy. (That's the first one, not one of the innumerable sequels.) I've also come up with a new This Just In: Trek fan club to start World War III. Sigh...I remember when TJI on Sunday was the rule, not the exception.... |

January 16 This is it: the very last week of the Voyager Virtual Season 8. After 24 episodes, VVS8 wraps today with the double-length cliffhanger "48 Hours." As huge in scope as in size, this is not an episode to miss. Five-Minute "48 Hours" is available now in the Voyager section. It's close to my longest fiver yet; I included all 47 scenes without skipping any (and also threw in a bonus at the end). Since the finale was a joint effort by the whole VS8 team, two of those original 47 scenes are by me. I can't tell you which two (there's a contest on at VS8 for who can guess the most authors correctly), but you'll probably have no trouble spotting them. Virtual Season 9 starts on April 10, which isn't that long a wait, so there's not really anything negative about the end of VS8. For me, though, it feels like the end of an era. VS8 changed a lot of things in my life. It was my first chance to get a different perspective on Trek, one which is probably similar to that of the Real Producers. It led to my first serious fanfic (and probably the longest thing I've ever written): "Rise and Fall." It put me in touch with some of the most interesting, creative people I've worked with before. Above all, without VS8 I might never have met Thinkey -- and if I hadn't met Thinkey, I'd be a very different person today. So my farewell to VS8 is a little bittersweet. I'll be back for Season 9, not only here at 5MV but also on the writing staff, and I look forward to that -- but I'll miss Season 8, and always look back on it fondly. VS9 has a tough act to follow. |

January 21 FTP was down yesterday, so I couldn't upload my new "Silent Enemy" fiver until this afternoon, although it was available at TrekToday and the usual message boards. It's now on the site. Today's update comes with an added bonus: the first This Just In article to be done by a guest writer. The amazing Kira sent me this over the weekend; I hope you find it as hilarious as I did. Read "Zeke missing in inaction", which is infuriatingly close to a true story.... Now a few brief comments to round out today's update.

January 23 About two weeks ago, Owen killed the 5MV boards. Why did he do this? It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight, but I digress. The point is that he killed them only with the intention of rebuilding them. (He had the technology.) And rebuild them he has. We're now on the ikonBoard system, a reliable setup that's been in place for a while at Bob and George. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible to carry existing member data over to the new boards, but it only takes a minute or two to register again. Not only that, but we've got the boards set up to allow posts by unregistered users -- so if you have a quick comment to make, you don't have to register to make it. With no further ado, here are.... (that's the plural of "Forum") At this point you may be asking yourself "Why is this newspost labeled 5MD? Why?" Well, keep your pants on -- there's a reason. Click here to find out what. |

January 25 Enterprise's latest offering, "Dear Doctor," is now fived. This one's already sparked more controversy than anything since "Tuvix" -- if you'd like somewhere to discuss it, how about the 5MV Miscellaneous forum? Today also marks the first of the update notes I'm sending out. If you'd like to be on the mailing list, write me and I'll add you. (Please put "update list" in the subject line so I'll know right away.) Same goes for anyone who already signed up but didn't receive the mail. You can have a look at today's note here.
