May 1 It's May Day! To celebrate, there may be content. But there isn't. Instead, have a link to Dan Carlson's Star Trek Minutiae, which just launched a new site design. |

May 2 The good news: Since two new The OC episodes have aired, I've updated the Five-Second The OC page. Well, one and a bit. You'll see what I mean. The bad news: Due to circumstances beyond my control, I can't make any updates for the next two weeks. (I will in fact be forbidden to use computers for any non-work purposes. Yeah.) If Kira's up for it, she'll be making the updates during that time; if not, we'll see what happens. See you in fourteen.... [Comments] |

May 3 Kira here. No new material today, but I do come bearing pimptastic goodness. Rather than linking to a webcomic or some such thing, I've decided to pimp a TV show: specifically, Veronica Mars. It's better than Buffy, it's better than Lost, and it's the best thing you're not watching. The penultimate episode of the season airs tonight; by all accounts it's going to knock the collective viewing audience's socks off and it's one of three episodes being included on the show's Emmy reel (I know!). I can't recommend the show highly enough -- 9 PM Eastern on UPN (I know!), and if you'd like to catch up on the characters and the numerous ongoing mysteries, head on over to Mars Investigations, a site designed for the express purpose of getting newcomers up to speed on the complex plotlines. |

May 9 Kira again. Apologies for the blackout; it's been a crazy week. To make up for it, here's the first in a series of Smallville fivers by Derek Dean: Five-Minute "Unsafe," which Derek assures me is one of the worst episodes of Smallville, ever. Let's enjoy! |
TJI |
May 13 Hey all. Zeke here with a very special update. This, at last, is the TJI special I've been working on since friggin' February! Not one, not three, but six brand new articles await you in This Just In WUXTRY #1: Enterprise Cancellation Spectacular. Today, of course, the last two new episodes of Enterprise air, so there can be no better day for this update. This is my parting salute to a brilliant series that went before its time -- and not just the cast and crew, but also the many people and websites which have so enhanced my enjoyment of the show. Enterprise has been a great way to spend four years, and this is my lovingly vicious thank you to the whole community. And that's not all! I have two other pieces of good news. One, these articles should be appearing shortly as a special feature at TrekToday. Two, believe it or not, having to work on fivers offline has been exactly what I needed -- I've written three since the ban, two of which are Enterprise fivers from Season 3! That's right, I've finally sat down and written what I always meant to write for "Azati Prime" and "Damage." When I finish the other two, I'll publish S3's Final Four in a four-day event, and then get started on S4. Today's update is the beginning of our ENT coverage in the weeks to come. (Just for the record, though, I'm not technically back yet. Kira's still in charge till Tuesday or so.) |

May 18 Zeke here. I'm back... I think. Details when I've got 'em. Anyway, here's another Smallville fiver from Derek: Five-Minute "Onyx." I'm not sure it's the next one he did chronologically, but it's the next one I can get at right now. Enjoy... FOOLS! |

May 19 So indeed, I am back. And guess what? I got not one, not twelve, but five fivers done on paper while I was gone. I'm in gear again! Hail to the king, baby! Anyway, here's a link for today. Over at TripHammered, evay is conducting a survey on what readers want her site to do from now on. (5MV will be doing something like this soon, so take notes.) Let her know what you want! |

May 20 Cool link today by way of stripysox: we made Wikipedia! I've also got a couple of birthdays to mention. First, Nan had hers a few days ago, and she's got a present coming. Second, here in Canada where the government just failed to collapse (sigh), I've been reminded that the province of Saskatchewan is celebrating its centennial this year. And we all know who's from Saskatchewan... that's right, one of my favourite bands, the Northern Pikes! So happy 100th to SK and those who dwell within. |

May 22 Content today! One of this week's season finales was a real show-stopper from The OC. In its wake, I've done a Top 10 list: The Top 10 Changes Ahead For The OC Characters in Season 3. In other news, this would be a very good time for me to get some money from this online hobby, and I've thought of a simple way. Lately I've gone back to my old practice of writing fivers on paper first, then typing them up. How many of you guys would be interested in paying for an original, signed draft of a fiver? Let me know by email or in this thread. If there's enough interest, I'll try auctioning one off and see how it goes. Finally... man that was fast! Some very generous person just donated 12 months of paid status for our LJ account! I intend to put this to good use. [Comments] |

May 23 Boy, do we have a treat for you guys today! Who here remembers back in Fall 2002 when Marc had his fiver of Star Trek: Nemesis done the very day the movie came out? Hold onto your hats, folks -- he's done it again. Say hello to Five-Minute Revenge of the Sith! [Comments] |

May 24 They can't all be big updates. Today I just spruced up Marc's fiver page a bit and started advertising it around. Did everybody have a nice Victoria Day? |

May 25 I've decided to give Marc's fiver another day to breathe. (Before choking off its esophagus with my dark Force powers.) Tomorrow, however, I'll resume publishing Derek's Smallville fivers... and he's got plenty of those to go around. In other news, 5MV on LJ has grown very fast, currently boasting 21 members on its fifth day of business. There have also been some new developments in the thread about ordering signed drafts of fivers. And we've had some great hitcounts this week -- a trend to encourage. Tell your friends! 5MV is rolling again and taking no prisoners. |

May 26 So as it turns out, that last Derek fiver was out of order. The next one chronologically is "Pariah," which is now online. Enjoy! [Comments] |

May 27 I don't have time for a content update today, but conveniently enough, I just realized I missed Tell a Friend About You Are Dumb Day back on the 29th. Every weekday at You Are Dumb, Bryan Lambert tells us what he hates. (YAD is sort of like 5MV that way, except he actually means it.) I've been reading the site for nearly a year now, and even though I disagree with Bryan on some of his biggest subjects, I always find it worth the read. Here are a few of my favourite YADs to give you a feel for the site. (Warning: If you're easily offended, or even just offendable, YAD will offend you at some point. The language is strong and the politics are stronger; until someone comes out with a ClearPlay version, you'll just have to live with it. Also, the site banner will cause your officemate to look at you funny.) |

May 28 Know what I just realized? Since I arrived in Ottawa, I've completed seven fivers -- and not one of them can be published on the site yet. They're all being held back for one reason or another. That probably makes me look bad. I know I've done seven fivers, but as far as you know, I've just eaten seven chocolate sundaes. There's good news, though. Three of those seven are from ENT S3 -- I have only "Zero Hour" left to do. And once all four are ready, we'll have a nice little four-day event. And maybe some scones. |

May 29 Today's update introduces itself, so no need to do that here. This is the culmination of some ideas that have been debated in the 5MV Talk forum. |

May 30 Today, after not quite five years, 5MV has logged its 500,000th hit! (That's unique hits -- visits -- rather than hits in the usual sense. But who says "500,000th visit"?) I've done a Top 10 list to commemorate this milestone: The Top 10 Ways to Tell That 5MV Just Got Its 500,000th Hit. My thanks to all readers, past and present, for getting us here. [Comments] |

May 31 Time for another Smallville fiver! Today we have "Recruit," in which Clark takes up football, possibly as a nod to John Byrne's 1985 stories that reworked Superman's origin. Hey, if Superman plays football, does that make him the Man of Iron -- gridiron, that is? By the way, the Fiver By Committee is almost done -- all of the final five blocks are available to be voted on. So where is everybody? [Comments] |
