Default Film is for fun

Quote:
From The Truth, by Terry Pratchett

'Er, why do you need to work in a dark room, though?' he said. 'The imps don't need it, do they?'
'Ah, zis is for my experiment,' said Otto proudly. 'You know zat another term for an iconographer would be "photographer"? From the old word photus in Latation, vhich means--'
' "To prance around like a pillock ordering everyone about as if you owned the place",' said William.
'Ah, you know it!'
William nodded. He'd always wondered about that word.
I bought, some little time ago, my very first film SLR. I've pretty much just been using digital up to this point, and probably will continue to for most things (those rolls of film soon add up quite substantially). I thought though it would probably be a good idea to get one to learn the ropes on, so to speak, so I got a reasonably priced Nikon body from eBay and a 50mm lens to go with it. The lens is a manual type, meaning pretty much all of the automatic functions on the camea no longer work; it's entirely intentional, and on the plus side I hope it'll force me to develop a better eye. On the negative side of course it means if pictures come out rubbish it's entirely my fault. Having never really used a film SLR before at all, apart from a single roll I shot on a borrowed Pentax ME Super, I was pleasantly suprised that my photos came back looking for the most part okay, and not like some ham-handed doofus had taken them as of course is actually the case. Naturally, I have decided to spam a little to celebrate, so here are three of the best (and bear in mind when I say best this was only a test roll, and I have not much idea what I was or am doing).

The back garden.

The old phone box (used for storage and other glamorous purposes).

A random Collie.

The camera itself, on the left, and my borrowed Lomography Fisheye camera next to it.

This photography lark is fun, but darn expensive. Why couldn't I have taken up collecting Ming vases or something instead?

*vase goes 'ming'*

Pointy, dare I ask why you have what appears to be the torso of a female mannequin stored in a phone box in your back yard?

...Mannequin. Yes, that's what it is.

It does sort of look like that, I guess, but all that's in there really are a load of spare bags and gardening implements. Nothing exciting, really. And besides, if there were any bodies they'd have been buried under the new concrete road, to form speed bumps. Waste not, want not.
